April

Hello, UKMUGgers!

We had a wonderful "final" meeting on March 26th, and after the meeting,

Laura Lancaster stepped up to take the helm for the group!

We have a new Queen! UKMUG goes on!

Laura will need your help... those of you who volunteered to help with "this or that job" now have a coordinator to ensure it all fits together smoothly.

And... there will be a meeting on April 9th
7pm, at KL Library Community Room
Topic: Vision for the club going forward and folks willing to help.

Come out and support your new Queen.
Help her take the club where you want it to go.

Picture of the official passing of the UKMUG ice bucket ...
Then scroll down, there's more...

Jim Allen was our March speaker and he asks our help in raising funds for St Jude.
He's entering the South Beach Triathlon to raise funds for this cause, of which he says, "I'm raising funds as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude's lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children. This year is special for me, because my sister recently died of brain cancer, and she spent much of her time helping kids fighting cancer, too. Please help me reach my fundraising goal for the kids of St. Jude, especially since St. Jude shares its research without limit."

If you haven't given to St. Jude's recently, take a moment and support Jim.

Pixelmator  with Joe Kukella (Sue Beal substituted)

Pixelmator is a very capable and low-cost alternative to Photoshop that Joe absolutely loves using.

As a digital image editor it does all most of us will ever ask an image editor to do, and it does it remarkably well.

While he is in the Upper Keys, Joe will be booking appointments for personal training. If you’re interested in having him stop by your home or business for an hour or so to cover any Mac OS, iOS, or Adobe product (Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) questions you have, drop him a note at joe (at) kukella.com.

A Mac user since 1988, Joe’s work as a designer and educator gives him a unique perspective on technology, how people use it, and how to explain it to others. He’s an Assistant Online Program Director for the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online, and he hosts workshops and training services focused on Macs, iPhones, and iPads for individuals and small groups. He spent five years with Macintosh Systems Solutions serving as the Service and Education Coordinator.

Sisters! Mary Anne's sister Fran joined us for the first time.

We had a small but enthusiastic crowd. Just a dozen.

Intro to Apple's iCloud Services

by Joe Kukella of Key West

Thursday, March 14, at 7pm at Key Largo Library Community Room, MM 101.4 Oceanside.

iCloud is a free, cloud-based storage and computing service. It can store all of your music, photos, calendars, contacts and more

and wirelessly push them to your other computers or iPhone and iPad devices. iCloud is easy to set up, but to get the most from it

you need to take a closer look at what it can, and cannot, do. Joe will provide a feature-by-feature overview of iCloud services,

detail how to get your data into the cloud, and discuss why this cloud has a silver lining. He'll also discuss a few other non-Apple

cloud-based services such as Google Docs and Dropbox.

Joe Kukella has been a Mac user since 1988. His work as a designer and educator gives him a unique perspective on technology,

how people use it, and how to explain it to others. He's currently an Assistant Online Program Director for the Graphic and Web Design

Department at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division where he manages a group of 30 faculty and develops courses for over

3,000 students from around the country pursuing undergraduate degrees in Graphic Design. When he's not busy trying to fit that title

onto a tiny business card, he hosts workshops and training services in Key West focused on Macs, iPhones, and iPads for individuals

and small groups. In addition to teaching art and design, he spent five years with Macintosh Systems Solutions in Key West serving

as the Service and Education Coordinator where he fixed computers and taught folks the nitty-gritty of wrangling Macs to do more

than just play Bubble Blaster.

While he is in the Upper Keys on Thursday the 14th, Joe will be booking appointments for personal training visits as well.

If you're interested in having him stop by your home or business for an hour or so to cover any Mac OS, iOS (iPhone and iPad),

or Adobe product (Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) questions you have, drop him a note at joe@kukella.com

and he'll get back to you with information. He can also add you to his mailing list so you get advance notice on his future visits to the Upper Keys!

Thursday, Feb. 3:

We set an all-time attendance record!! 82 Attendees!!

Joe Kukella, Education Director and Store Manager for Macintosh(tm) Systems Solutions of Key West gave us an excellent

“Introduction to Macintosh” presentation aimed at new users and those thinking of switching to Apple.

People came out in droves to hear Joe, and it was a wonderful evening, he gave us so much information!

Even the old-time Mac users learned a few new tricks! That's Joe - under the arrow - in a sea of heads!

January 13, Thursday, 7pm, Key Largo Library Community Room

TOM MULHALL of MACINTOSH SYSTEMS SOLUTIONS

on Apple-based Home Entertainment

Apple TV - Movies, Audio & Video for your living room!

Tom did an amazing job to a packed house - 65 people in attendance.
It was amazing because he had to do it without a WiFi network or Internet connection!

The Library's WiFi wasn't working that night.

He made a hardwired network and we all used our imaginations a bit for the Internet part.

The subject matter didn't suffer much, and many were ready to buy an Apple TV box that night!

(Too bad he didn't bring a case of them to sell!)

THANK YOU TOM, for a great evening - our biggest crowd since the early 90s!!

Our 18th Annual Non-Denominational Holiday Celebration was

In November we had MOVIE NIGHT!!!  7pm - Nov. 11 - Key Largo Library Community Room

Joe Kukella had to cancel at the last minute. Instead we showed MacHeads.

MacHEADS is a feature length (52-min.) documentary which explores the loyalty of Apple fans and their obsession with the company and its products. The film takes an in-depth examination of just what makes the Mac, the iPhone, and Apple's other products seem like cultural phenomena rather than just consumer electronics.

We had time after the movie for an open discussion of some problems people
had been having. Hope we were able to help!
